Dear Colleague:
Thank you for considering the Miami-Dade Police Department for your training needs. As one of the largest law enforcement agencies in the southeast United States, our Department has been providing outstanding practical and innovative training programs for law enforcement since 1986. Each course addresses a topic of critical concern and is presented with the highest caliber of professional instruction.
The fees for courses conducted at our local hotels include breakfast and lunch, a welcoming evening reception for students to meet each other, and an excursion to a local tourist attraction. (Courses given at the Department’s Training Bureau—the Metropolitan Police Institute—include all the foregoing, except breakfast.) Tuition also covers the costs of all books or manuals, a padfolio for taking notes, souvenirs (cups, pens, patches, etc.) and other promotional items.
Students from all over the United States and from over 39 foreign countries have traveled to Miami to participate in our courses. Instructors for the courses are drawn from throughout the world to provide you with the latest, state-of-the-art information. Each instructor is also rated for presentation skills and only those with the highest rating are selected for courses conducted by our Department. We recognize that most of these training programs are intensive; therefore, we are committed to providing an atmosphere conducive to learning and relaxation. Our training staff is always on site to assist you in ensuring that your learning experience is second to none. We hope to see you soon at one of our courses.

Basic Registration Information |

The Miami-Dade Police Department’s Metropolitan Police Institute, located at 9601 NW 58 Street, Doral, Florida, is pleased to announce its 2008 Training Catalog, outlining the training programs offered by the Specialized Training Unit.
You may register for any course described in this catalog by telephone, facsimile, e-mail or postal mail. Please contact our office to verify exact dates of course(s). During the year, circumstances may arise causing a change of date. If this should occur, and you have previously registered for a course, you will be advised as soon as the new date is set. In addition to this catalog, brochures on each month’s courses will be mailed giving an in-depth review of the course, hotel information, course hours and instructor information.

Hotel Information |

The majority of our courses are held at hotels in the local area. You should make your room reservation at the hotel listed.
AmeriSuites Miami Airport West is located at 3655 NW 82 Avenue, Miami, Florida 33166. For reservations contact (305) 718-8292 or 1-800-833-1516, and refer to the course name when making your reservation to obtain the contractual rate. The price includes transportation to and from Miami International Airport and a continental breakfast each morning.
Newport Beachside Resort is located at 16701 Collins Avenue, Sunny Isles Beach, Florida 33160. For reservations contact (305) 949-1300, and refer to the course name when making your reservations to obtain the contractual rate.
Staybridge Suites is located at 3255 N.W. 87th Avenue, Doral, Florida 33172. For reservations contact (305) 500-9100, and refer to the Miami-Dade Police Department group rate when making your reservations to obtain the contractual rate.

Florida Tax – All hotels charge a 13% resort tax on rooms unless you present a Florida Tax Exemption form from your Department and provide a departmental check payable directly to the hotel. Please call the Florida Department of Revenue at (850) 487-4130 for further information.
All reservations must be accompanied by a first night’s deposit 4-6 weeks in advance or guaranteed by a Credit Card. “No Shows” will be billed for the first night’s deposit, if not canceled 2 weeks in advance. Reservations made after 2 weeks prior to the start of the course will be on a space-available basis only and at the prevailing rate.
