This course will introduce the student to the mathematical theory behind the formulae used to determine the origin of blood sources and the scientific principles that dictate the motion of blood. Completion of this course will enable the student to analyze, interpret, and testify more effectively incases where bloodstain pattern analysis is performed. Hands-on exercises will be utilized to reinforce principles learned in the classroom and will include instruction in the use of the Backtrack® computer program for bloodstain pattern analysis. This course will be of special interest to law enforcement professionals involved in forensic fields such as fingerprint identification and questioned document examination. It teaches the skills needed to successfully enhance direct digital or digitized images through the use of Adobe PhotoShop computer software. Students will learn to adjust contrast in images to increase visibility of the evidence, and to remove distracting backgrounds from images. Emphasis will be placed on which of PhotoShop’s tools are appropriate for use in forensic applications and which tools should be avoided. In addition to enhancement procedures, students will learn how to document their enhancements and how to maintain security of the original image and the enhanced image for later courtroom testimony. Legal issues will be discussed and there will be a courtroom testimony exercise in this course.

We are pleased to announce that the Metropolitan Police Institute is again offering the "Advanced Fingerprint Science for Tenprint Examiners Workshop."

This 40 hour workshop will take an in depth look at the advanced aspects of Tenprint Examination. Is Tenprint Examination technical work, an art, or science? Where is Tenprint Examination headed? What is ACE-V and what relevance does it have to the science of fingerprints? How does the advent of computers and explosion of technology affect Tenprint examiners? How does AFIS work and is it really like CSI? How should you prepare for court and what should you expect? What is needed to obtain the Tenprint Certification and what is the process? This workshop will answer these important questions with relevancy to Tenprint examination.

This workshop will be limited to twenty-five (25) students. A certificate of training will be issued to students upon completion of the workshop. This workshop will provide for 40 hours of continuing education credit required for I.A.I. certification and recertification. The workshop is structured for individuals who have completed a Basic Fingerprint Science training program or those who are currently employed as a Tenprint Examiner..

This 40 hour course is designed for all those persons who have the responsibility of protecting dignitaries such as the President, Vice President, and foreign heads of state. The training that will be included in this very intense program will include protective measures, advance site operations, defensive tactics, firearms, motorcade escorts, ambush awareness, working with other government and private protection agencies and explosives identification.

The major blocks of instruction are followed by practical application and scenario training which each student is required to participate in. The scenario training exercises will be a protectee situation. Students will be required to be dressed in business attire, protecting the protectee against various threats. The field exercises will be conducted in the public environment with a protectee.

Classes will consist of day and night exercises over a 4-day period. This is a high paced and "hands on" training curriculum. The instructors in this school have assisted and presented numerous dignitary protection classes here and in other parts of the country, as well as first hand experience working with the Secret Service, U.S. State Department, C.I.A., F.B.I. and foreign protective services on numerious protective details for visiting dignitaries in Dade County Florida and other locations.
